Behind Every Successful Move: The Training You Never See

When most people think about a removals company, they picture the moving day itself, the vans arriving, furniture being carefully loaded, and boxes making their journey from one home to the next.

What many people don’t see is the training that takes place long before a removals team ever steps through a customer’s front door.

Moving home is consistently ranked as one of life’s most stressful events. At Squab Removals, we believe that reducing that stress starts with ensuring our teams are properly trained, confident and prepared for every situation they might encounter.

More Than Just Moving Boxes

A professional house move requires far more than strength and a van.

Our teams need to know how to safely lift and carry heavy items, manoeuvre furniture through tight spaces, protect walls and floors, dismantle and reassemble furniture, carefully pack fragile possessions, and work efficiently as a team, all while providing excellent customer service.

Every home is different, and every move brings its own unique challenges.

A Unique Training Facility

To help prepare our teams, Squab Removals has invested in something rather unusual – a purpose-built, two-bedroom, two-storey training flat constructed above one of our storage facilities.

The training flat allows our teams to practise real-life moving scenarios in a safe environment before they encounter them in customers’ homes.

Whether it’s navigating awkward staircases, moving large furniture through doorways, protecting vulnerable surfaces or perfecting packing techniques, our team members can develop their skills through practical, hands-on experience.

For new starters, it provides a valuable opportunity to build confidence and learn best practice. For experienced team members, it offers an environment to refresh skills and share knowledge with colleagues.

Training Across the Removals Industry

Professional removals companies across the UK invest significant time in training their staff. This can include:

Safe lifting and manual handling techniques
Health and safety procedures
Packing and wrapping fragile items
Furniture dismantling and reassembly
Vehicle safety and loading techniques
Risk assessment and problem solving
Customer service and communication skills
Handling specialist items such as antiques, artwork and pianos

The best removals teams understand that technical skills and customer care go hand in hand.

Why Training Matters

The benefits of training aren’t just felt by the removals company, they’re felt by the customer.

Well-trained teams are more efficient, better organised and more confident in dealing with unexpected challenges. They know how to protect your belongings, minimise the risk of damage and help moving day run as smoothly as possible.

Most importantly, they help provide peace of mind.

When you’re entrusting a removals company with your furniture, treasured possessions and often a lifetime of memories, knowing that the people handling them have been properly trained can make all the difference.

The Training You Never Notice

In many ways, the best compliment a removals team can receive is when customers don’t notice the expertise at all.

A smooth move, careful handling, good communication and a calm, professional approach are often the result of countless hours of preparation and training behind the scenes.

At Squab Removals, we’re proud to invest in our people because we know that better-trained teams create better moving experiences.

And while our customers may never see the hours spent practising in our training flat, they’ll certainly experience the benefits when moving day arrives.
